Serial Port Dial-in Help
This screen allow setup for the Dial-in feature of the Serial Port.
Dial-in Settings
These settings apply to all users.
Enable Dial-in
Enable or disable the Dial-in feature as required.
Note:
- If Dial-in is enabled, the modem can NOT be used for Internet Access or LAN-to-LAN.
- Dial-in cannot be enabled if the modem is used for Internet Access or for LAN-to-LAN.
Dial-in PPP Authentication
Select the desired option
- PAP is widely supported, but not very secure, because the password is not encrypted.
- CHAP is more secure than PAP (the password is encrypted before transmission), and should be used if possible.
- MSCHAP is the Microsoft Windows version of CHAP. If all dial-in users are using Windows, you should use this option.
In Windows Dial-up Networking, this setting is called "Require Encrypted Password" rather than MSCHAP.
Disconnect after Idle Time
If enabled, a Dial-in connection will be terminated after being idle for the time specified. Change the Idle Time value to the desired time.
If not enabled, the Dial-in connection must be terminated by the Dial-in user.
Dial-in Users
This table lists all existing users, and allows you to add, edit and delete users. If you have not defined any users, the table will contain the pre-defined "guest" user.
Unless dial-in authentication is set to "None" (not recommended), any user attempting to dial-in must exist in this database.
For each user, the following data is displayed.
- Name - the name of the user.
- Enabled - indicates whether dial-in access is Enabled or Disabled.
- Call Back - indicates the current "call-back" setting (Disabled, Roaming, or Fixed)
